Small Fast Update - Art

Journal Entry: Thu May 10, 2012, 7:13 AM
Ok so for the past week I've been trying to just get out of the house, be around tons of people and just... get away from thinking about Mr. Strobel. And I've succeeded for the most part which is why I was only around to stream like 2 times and haven't uploaded much etc.

Art wise, I just got a ton of new supplies. I got  oil paints, I got 4 canvases from 11x14 - 16x20 to paint on. So in the next few months expect some huge paintings. I also bought some clay glaze so I can make some better clay stuff. Some one in my family gave me a nice amount to buy some supplies so I have and I'm really excited to get into some more complex art mediums.

Anyways, going to the visitation for Mr. Strobel today. Hope it gives me some closure. Tomorrow my parents are gone all day/night so hopefully I can do some streaming, start some paintings, get some clayreations done etc.

Thank you so much for all the support and prayers to the family and friends. I know right now they're just happy he was found even though it's tragic that he wasn't found still breathing. As far as anyone knows it was an accident, the autopsy didn't find any signs of anything other than tripping or passing out and falling in. A very tragic accident a lot of people wish never happened.

So for now I got 5 hours of driving to do one way today.

Yeah, new art supplies! What shall you mess around with first?

I am very happy to hear that your family is feeling a bit better emotionally. Still praying for you all. ^^

((...and I need to go to bed. xD))

I think I need to work on my grandfather's painting first. I have a really cool idea and hopefully I don't mess it up xD

Heh yeah. The visitation... was huge. Easily 1,500 people went through there if not twice as many throughout the day. The whole city tried to show up I think and then some... I guess I found out no one knows if they are a christian family... I thought they were so that makes me more sad. Ms. Strobel was very happy we made the 5 1/2 hour drive down and surprised we had.

Oh how cool! Can I ask what the occasion is for the gift? :D

Oh wow, that sounds amazing. I am happy that so many people showed up, but it also must have been a little over-whelming. one is sure if they are Christians or not? That is really sad. Hopefully prayers will help anyways. :(
And your family really care about them if you would drive that far, good for you.

The gift? Because he gave me 50$ to buy paints with so I could make him a painting lol.

Yeah it was really good that there was so much support. Jess (close friend of Ms. Stroble and a good friend of mine) said they didn't have a church home and she wasn't really sure if they believed or not... So yeah =/ I assumed they did, they seemed like a nice christian family with bible verses in their house and very giving and kind.

Yay for the new art supplies! ^^
I've only done 2 good paintings that I'm proud of and those are watercolor... I won't touch oil XD
I'd love to see more sculptures as well!
The dragon you did for Hanah was awesome :D

I think it's good that you're going there, eventhough it's not something to look forward to it might give you some closure
And I can understand that they are just happy he was found. Living in doubt and not knowing would've been even worse...

Oil is fun~ I have 2 painting requests, one was paid for in giving me the money to buy the paints xD and idk if the other one the friend will pay me for but we'll see :meow: I also came up with some really fun ideas for that dA creative grants thing. I have a big project I really want to pull off and yeah :D I thought up a ton of stuff in the car last night. We got home at 5:45am... xD We watched the sun set and the sun come up again. It was crazy.

Yeah, it was good. Ms. Strobel was quite surprised and thankful we came. The family had all mourned for 2 weeks pretty much so they were able to talk and greet and smile a bit which I guess is good. They said they'll miss him a lot though and that he just always had a great attitude. All the pictures made me cry because that's what I remembered, seeing him in his house with his kids and stuff... They didn't have the casket open though so I didn't quite get to see-to-believe he was gone but it was good my mom and I went.

I saw the bridge... It had a low rail on one side and no railing on the other and it was for the train tracks... So I could see if some one was a little drunk how they could have easily fallen off =/

Sounds good ^^
Can't wait to see more paintings from you!
Hope the other person will also pay for the art supplies, people tend to forget how costly they are
Hehe, I didn't even bother reading all that much about dA creative grant... Just took a look now since you mentioned it
But it would be cool if you could use it :D
Is it for an exhibition and meet and greet with the artist from you in the Netherlands? (would be cool XD)
Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful!
They can definately inspire you

Glad it helped a bit
Must've still been hard though...
But it was definately appreciated and probably will help you to get some closure
Especially since you saw the bridge with your own eyes.
Hopefully things will get better for you from now on

The art your planning will probably be a nice distraction
And hopefully give you a good time doing them :)

Hahahaha you could apply to fun airfare for US artists to come set up an art show in the Netherlands and get Hannah and I over there... xD I'm stopping in Amsterdam to switch flights on the way home but apparently there's no time between flights to stop and look around :( Looks like we get 30 mins in the airport though. Closet I'm coming I think.

I want to host two different art education projects in my community between August-September of this year. One would teach 15 kids between 9-15 a love of art and get them some supplies so they keep working. The other would educate the general public about the existence of digital art through demonstrations and prints. My community is so art illiterate =/ They all assume A) To be an artist you just are born good at it, B) Only the professionals in the area can be artist, why try or C) They don't understand the time/money/effort that goes into art. Which is pretty common.

I'm also sure that I'm one of maybe... 10 digital artists in my whole state. I don't know a single other digital artist anywhere, only painters and photographers. So it'd be a great time to educate people about digital art as well.

Haha sounds good, maybe you could give a lesson when I have to teach in class
Schools don't have that much money though so it would be charity?! ;p
A shame that there is no gap between flights, though I'd still live in the other end of the country (north-east)
Who knows, maybe someday... at least we have the internet ^^

Sounds good, art classes for hobbyists are pretty rare around here
Would be cool to have that here as well.
And I know what you mean about art illiterate, though it does seem to be changing
I have heard more and more people saying that they have drawing as a hobby, though it's still just a handfull of people XD

The A+B point you mentioned are nice ones to think about.
I definately think that Talent is born and that some people are natural artists but I also believe that everybody can become one :D
And what I like about DA it shows that everyone that makes something IS an artist, ofcourse not all at the same level but pretty much everyone is referred to as an artist and respected for that ^^ (though I wouldn'n't call myself one outside dA...)

Actually I looked, we're there from 9:30- 12:20 (12:45 but we'd get on early) so plenty of time to be bored in the airport xD

Lol yeah. I think anything can be learned. The only talent anyone can really be 'born' with is singing but anyone could learn to be a composer, an artist, a musician, a water-skier, a novelist etc, its just that some are more naturally talented and some have to work harder :) I know I'm one where I just have to work harder. But it makes a better story ;)

Heh yeah~ Speaking of art... *just finished her painting *
Jorik-Spiritwolves Featured By Owner May 12, 2012  Hobbyist
haha, yeah. Waiting always sucks XD

Yeah I think most things can be learned by hard work.
Even singing a little bit. Which I'm not good at at all
But when I practice I can sing 'okay'. It's just something I haven't really learned doing properly
A shame we never went to church since that would be a great place to learn :)
And I'm definately the latter one as well. But it does keep it interesting :D

Will comment on that right now ;D

Yeaaaaah. Ah well. Wished that could have worked =/ Idl the next time I'd be anywhere near the Netherlands.

Heh yeah church is a great place to work on singing. I like going and I like singing there and the sound of all the different voice types going all at once and some off tune, some really loud, some really quiet, none of them together... just sounds so neat. :)

Oehw nice stuff! I did clay some last week, it was fun to do :). What does the glaze do exactly?

And still lot of strenght to you and the family! I'm glad to hear it's going a bit better already.

It either makes the clay shinier, it makes it stick when it bakes if its in pieces or it just makes it stronger/hold together. :)
